The “Touchable” Model of Kenchoji Temple in Kamakura City Was Unveiled
LATEST NEWS
A “touchable” model of Kenchoji Temple, made with our casting technology, was unveiled at a ceremony held on April 21.
The “touchable” model of Kenchoji Temple was planned by UniLeaf, a universal picture book library (Hayama-cho, Kanagawa Prefecture; Rieko Oshita, Representative), with the concept of enabling visually impaired people to share the excitement of traveling together by touching and feeling historical buildings with their hands. This project has run with many supporters through grants from the “Sasaeai Fund” and crowdfunding.
The Kenchoji Temple was reproduced in bronze at a 1/50 scale to create a tangible representation of a historical building.
We were in charge of casting production, which consisted of approximately 30 parts. These parts were produced using the “digital casting” method, which does not require the production of metal molds, and which is a specialty for one-of-a-kind items with a small number of parts.
It has been permanently installed in front of Kenchoji Temple's Buddhist Hall since the day after the ceremony, and visitors are welcome to touch it.
